A lesser-known fact about Rajasthani monuments is that forts, palaces and havelis were rarely built all at once. New wings, arches and rooms were added gradually, each reflecting the style of its era. Dera Mandawa has followed the same path of quiet evolution since around 1885, when Thakur Jait Singh Ji of Mandawa built it as his residence at the Jaipur court. Our family still lives here, which is why a stay with us feels less like checking into a hotel and more like being welcomed into a home.
Each of our 11 suites has its own character, and no two are alike. Spacious interiors, warm décor, traditional patterns and bursts of colour create a feeling of calm and connection. Swings, reading nooks, awnings and colonial furniture complete the setting, ideal for travellers who want the intimacy of a heritage haveli in Jaipur rather than the anonymity of a large hotel.

Because the haveli was built as a home rather than a hotel, the suites vary in size, layout and light. Some are split-level, with a welcoming gallery or a cosy study above and a restful bedroom below; others open onto balconies, rooftops or quiet corners of the house. Every suite has a large king-sized bed dressed in fine Rajasthani linen, a well-kept bathroom with running hot and cold water, and complimentary WiFi.
Breakfast is served as you like it, from eggs and toast with fresh fruit and juice to a traditional Rajasthani spread, and lunch or dinner can be arranged with prior notice.
Families and small groups often find the split-level suites the most comfortable choice, since they give everyone room to spread out, a quiet corner to read in and a proper bedroom to retreat to. As no two of our rooms are alike, the simplest thing is to tell us who is travelling, from the youngest to the eldest, and we will suggest the suites that fit. A family stay at a haveli hotel in Jaipur should feel generous, not cramped, and that is what we plan for.

At Dera Mandawa, a family-run Jaipur boutique hotel, every service and space is designed to make your stay restful, memorable and truly yours.

Jaipur has no shortage of hotels, but among the havelis to stay in Jaipur, very few are still lived in by the family who built them. A traditional haveli is arranged around a central courtyard, with thick walls that hold the cool through the day, carved jharokhas that filter the light, and rooms that open onto shared terraces rather than long corridors. It was designed for living well in this climate, and it still works that way.
It is also a different kind of heritage stay in Jaipur. Instead of a lobby and a front desk, you have hosts who can tell you which gate of the old city to walk through first, where to find the best kachori in the morning, and when the light is right at Nahargarh. Dera Mandawa sits just beyond Chandpole Gate, within about two kilometres of City Palace, so the old city begins almost at our door.
Many of our guests first find us while looking for a haveli hotel in Jaipur or a Jaipur boutique hotel with real history, and the difference they notice is scale: 11 suites, one family, and a pace that lets you rest properly between days in the city. If that sounds like the Jaipur you are looking for, our family would be glad to host you.

With prior notice, a traditional gala evening can be arranged, offering an immersive taste of local music and regional cuisine. Guests may also enjoy curated cultural experiences such as kite flying, henna artistry, saree draping, or safa tying, each thoughtfully organised to reflect Rajasthan’s living traditions.
These moments of leisure are designed to complement the pace of a luxury heritage stay in Jaipur, where indulgence is rooted in authenticity and timeless hospitality.
