Overview

Just a 2 hour drive from Jaipur, a unique never before glimpse into the rural way of life at Rajasthan awaits you. Here, surrounded by semi desert flora, next to an oasis you get acquainted with the Indian camel – the royal way.

Not your regular Camel Safari

Did you know that in Rajasthan camel hair cutting is an actual art? Or that the term ‘ship of the desert’ doesn’t nearly convey what this animal has meant to our way of life for eons?
For generations he was our only mode of travel, means to plough the desert, provider of wool and yarn and sometimes, even of dairy. Today, this way of life is getting lost. The Camel Caravan is as much an effort to preserve it, as it is to give you a glimpse at the true nature of this magnificent creature.
This is no joyride but a real, intimate experience. We wish to take you back in time, to experience the camaraderie a desert dweller used to share with his camel.
Here, you get to graze your camel, pamper him by letting him roll in the ground and then dust him, give him a haircut. And you might even get to meet a Camel cub!

Some interesting camel facts

An evolutionary genius

Camels graze on thorny bushes of acacia at the level of 8-10 feet. They strip of the leaves with their teeth, without harming the stem. Also they feed at such a height that they do not compete with any other creatures living in the desert for food.

An integral part of our heritage

A nomad community called Raika or Rebari were the professional camel herders of Rajasthan. They kept herds with 50-500 camels which would free grace around the country’s North-Western region.
A loyal and hardworking animal, the camel does not retire at old age. Instead he works till his last breath.

Quirky to the very core

Just as we enjoy a warm bath after a sweaty walk the camel enjoys a roll in the sand. This is his way of feeling fresh again.
Who can forget the camel’s peculiar features and expressions? This asymmetric looking animal is quite graceful and handsome at a closer look. Also, he gurgles to attract females!
