Lovely stay
Such a lovely stay at the Deera Mandawa. Centrally located not that you’d know it. Such tranquility once within the walls. Our room was large, cool and beautifully decorated and furnished.. largest bed we’ve had so far! The food was simple but delicious, the staff and Mr Singh all very attentive and it was a great hotel for getting around. Wound thoroughly recommend.

Great hotel with character
The hotel has a stunning Indian ambience. The room was very friendly and clean. Inside there was a balustrade where you could retreat. The owner received friendly and gave us information about the origin of the hotel. The staff was attentive and friendly.

Amazing experience
Really loved our stay. This hotel feels like going into someone’s home, the owners and staff are very friendly and the cooking experience was simply the best!
Easy to get out and explore the fantastic vibrant city but calm and tranquil once inside.
Would love to stay again.

A serene and historic gem in the heart of Jaipur
Mr Durga Singh was able to rescue us at very short notice from an untenable situation from a nightmare hotel. He sprang into action, sent a car to fetch us and had been the most congenial, accommodating and hospitable host. Dera Mandawa is a small piece of paradise and a welcome reprieve from the hustle, bustle and noise of Jaipur. The staff are polite and helpful. The rooms are spacious, tastefully decorated whilst preserving the historic look and feel of an era lost in time. The food is plentiful and quite scrumptious. We were two friends traveling together to explore the ‘golden triangle’. I cannot recommend this ‘hotel’ highly enough.

Fun cooking and cultural experience
We were staying in a nearby hotel but visited for an interactive cookery demonstration, and more. We were warmly welcomed by the host, Durga Singh, who is a well known personality throughout India and beyond, having been invited to speak in many other countries. He has a beautiful home in which we would have been delighted to stay. From the rooftop terrace there are views of the old city wall and where we watched the sunset.

Great business card of Jaipur
I stayed at this property for two nights and it was a wonderful experience. The structure is very welcoming and the staff extremely helpful, attentive and kind. The room was beautiful, clean and comfortable. The food, breakfast and dinner, extraordinary. We also had the chance to participate in a traditional puppet show in the courtyard and despite the low temperatures the staff was very kind in the blankets and a whiskey cola always much appreciated. Great attention to detail in the furnishings of the rooms and costumer service.

The excellent tone of friendliness was set on early on with the unique owner and gentleman, Mr Singh.

Unbelievable room – with a balcony (indoors)
Spice walk, Puppet show, Hindu horoscope reading – Jaipur is a bonkers place but the hotel is an oasis.

Wonderful accomodation surprise in Jaipur
In our years of travel, we can count many fine hotel stays, but less than a handful of delightful accomodation surprises. The Dera Mandawa is in a grand house with a gate and large inner courtyard. Coming from the chaotic streets of Jaipur through the gates into the hotel (it is properly called a “home stay”) is a soothing surprise. The host and his wife are charming and knowledgable; we had delightful conversations with both. When we first entered our room, our respective jobs dropped. It was huge with an antechamber, cavernous bedroom, sideroom with large armoire, large washroom with separate bath and shower, and decorated in the style of the 15-17th century palaces we were seeing in the state of Rajasthan. We had just come from a 5-star British hotel in Delhi, and this home-stay made us feel much more connected with the atmosphere of exotic India. In addition, there was not one but two bonuses. We took an Indian cooking course one of the nights where the host taught us how to cook an Indian meal, which we ate with him over an intriguing conversation on Indian history, modern India, and its place in global affairs. During the evening as well, we enjoyed a traveling puppet show performed in the courtyard, which depicted a story of a 17th century maharaja. If anyone else enjoys wonderful accomodation suprises like this, we strongly recommend the Dera Mandawa.

Amazing homestay, a highlight of our trip
In the heart of Jaipur city, lies the beautiful honestly of Dera Mandawa. The rooms are from a time gone by, palatial in their finish. Naturally cooling too which made resting pleasant. Use of ear plugs at night is a must if you are to get any sleep as unfortunately, as with any major city in India, the use of horns from the road will keep almost anyone awake!
The food was astounding. From the moment we arrived, we couldn’t have been more warmly welcomed. The man who owned the home stay sat with my family and explained that they were aware of my coeliacs disease and although they had people who were gluten intolerant staying with them, they understood the severity of coeliacs and had provided the chef with new utensils and cooking equipment along with a clear cooking area for my food prep during our stay. This put my mind at rest immediately.

Absolutely recommend staying here
The courtyard is a peaceful spot in the midst of the bustling surrounding streets, eating breakfast in the morning with the birds around was relaxing and enjoyable. The staff is excellent, meals are tasty, and Mr. Singh is a friendly, extremely thoughtful, and helpful host – he work up at 4am to send us off to our next destination. The rooms are very cool too!

Wonderful oasis!
A beautiful family run accommodation set in a central location but a calm and peaceful oasis. Guests are met and greeted by family members and made to feel so welcome. All of the staff are amazing – helpful and attentive to guests’ needs; nothing is too much trouble for them; a fan will appear if you are sitting outside, a glass of water if you start to cough! Our suite room number 2 was fantastic; a high roomed space decorated and furnished tastefully in traditional styles was spacious and extremely comfortable. We had a fabulous upper balcony inside the room which was stunning. Our Diwali celebration was memorable; women guests were dressed in sarees and had henna applied to their hands and men guests wore Safa turbans. We were treated to a traditional puppet show, watched the Laxmi pooja ceremony, helped put the ‘tea lights‘ around the property, had a wonderful meal and finished the evening with fireworks. All of the food is sourced with local ingredients and is of a high quality. This was our 8th accommodation but the first to let us know about our special request – we can only drink decaffeinated coffee and tea; they provided us with a jar of decaffeinated coffee and a box of decaffeinated tea bags to use during our stay – this typifies their attention to detail. Thakur Durga Singh, the great grandson of the original owner, is a wise and wonderful man. He interacts with all of the guests and spends a lot of time recounting interesting information and anecdotes. A superb 3 night stay!
